Customer Segmentation

Customer segmentation is a popular application of data mining when working with an established customer base. Segmentation is used to communicate effectively and via the most efficient channel to increase sales, retain customers and target new products and services to each customer segment. Traditionally, customer segments have been based on market research and demographics. The data mining approach is preferable because it identifies behavioural segments based on the lifestyles and behaviours of all customers - not just those who have undertaken to complete a survey.
